1st April - RIo Chico to Casa de Peidra (Day 5)

After a cold night in our tents we woke to a frosty morning. Packing, or more specifically loading, is still taking a long time. Despite getting up at just after 7am it was around 9am before I hit the road. After only a few miles of piste we hit tarmac, lovely long sweeping bends with some straights that meant we were eating in to the 390km route in no time. It was not long before we were back on the piste as we reached a section that was being paved. We were forced to use temporary clay and gravel sections running parallel to virgin tarmac. Although there was very little wind today, the twists and turns in the road meant there were some more tricky sections. I'm getting a little more used to letting the bike move around under me, but cornering on loose gravel can still a little nerve-racking experience on a fully loaded bike as road tires.

Eventually we made it to the fuel stop at the mid way point, only to be told there was no petrol. After warming up in a cafe we decided to press on despite some bikes having virtually no fuel. The support truck went ahead to pick up fuel to went back to rescue the stranded bikes. I made it to within 10km of our camp site before the bike ran dry.

Other than running out of fuel I had no new problems. Coolant levels are still high.
